Molasses
The commonly tobacco used in smoking the Nargile called Molasses. It is a blend of tobacco leaves which gives a variety of special flavors and tastes depending on the added sugarcane and other additives.
The use of Molasses started in Egypt in the beginning of the 19th century, with the Ottoman's conquest. They used to smoke what was called "Tombak", tobacco that was planted in Turkey and Iran where its preparation does not include any technical process and its quality depends on the kind of tobacco used.
The Egyptians dilemma was where to bring the tobacco from. They started producing a replacement tobacco out of coconut fruit. They made two holes to extract the milk inside, and as a rubber tube they used a bamboo stick. They placed burnt clay to put the tobacco on. The shisha that was created they called "Gouza".
There's a tale about a man who was having his dinner, he eat the popular dessert in Egypt – bread and molasses extracted from sugarcane. An idea popped in his mind to use the molasses to give the tobacco texture. The result was tobacco with sticky texture and flavor while smoking. And that was the beginning of the Nargile tobacco as we know it today – tobacco with sweet molasses – The name that was given was "Massell".
The industry developed, and the tobacco got mixed with various flavors. Competition started between the companies in this field until it became the Nargile tobacco as we know it today.
A result of what happened to the international cigarettes companies and because today it is well known that smoking tobacco is unhealthy, the "Massell" companies came up with new brands with less nicotine.
Today you can enjoy molasses in a variety flavors like apple, strawberry, mint and many more.
